Fifty-six members of the GROM elite unit were deployed in Iraq in 2003 and took part in operations to take control of oil platforms near the southern city of Basra.
Created in 1990, the unit has taken part in missions to Haiti, Bosnia and Afghanistan.
Two former members of GROM employed as civilian guards were killed last summer in Iraq. A total of 20 Poles, 16 of them civilians, have died in the country so far.
A strong ally of the US since the start of the Iraq conflict, Poland administers a zone south of Baghdad and is leader of a multinational force of 6,000 troops.
Warsaw said last week that it was cutting the number of its troops from 2,400 to 1,700 after the Iraqi elections scheduled for January 30.
Some 700 other soldiers based in Poland have been put on reserve to be sent to Iraq if needed.
