"MADRID, March 12 (Reuters) - An unexploded bomb meant to be used in the deadly Madrid train bombings contained explosives similar to a type used by the Basque separatist group ETA in the past, Spain's interior minister said late on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Interior Minister Angel Acebes confirmed that a sports bag was found on Thursday night containing dynamite and with a phone for a timer.
The dynamite was of a type -- Goma 2-eco -- similar to one previously used by ETA, he said. The bomb was reinforced with shrapnel to multiply its effect, Acebes said."

"Autopsies carried out after the Madrid terror attracks had turned up no evidence of a suicide bombing, Spain's interior minister said today.
His remark would seem to back up the government's assertion that the rail attacks were probably carried out by Basque separatists, not Islamic extremists.
"Of the autopsies carried out, none of them have given as a result that (death) was caused by a suicide bomb," minister Angel Acebes said.
Suicide attacks are a hallmark of militants linked to al-Qaeda. "
