>You guys (those of you who actually beleive that these Russian aircraft came within 250nm without being detected) are living in la-la land if you think that a USN CBG is not watched over 24/7 by an E-2C with escorts. Further, the airspace forward, aft, starboard, and port is sectioned into large boxes and patrolled by fighters (this is a what a fighter screen is gents).
>The Hawkeye WILL see any aircraft that is 10ft or more off the deck over open ocean, and a bit higher than that over land out to distance considerably greater than 250nm. That is further enhanced by the radars of F-14's doing BARCAP patrols just inside the outside edge of the E-2's tracking range.

>The Hawkeye WILL vector fighters to escort those aircraft through a "safe" corridor should those aircraft push through the incidence boundary. Remember, there are flight operations going on guys, nobady wants a midair on their watch.

>The fighters WILL engage military aircraft that do not heed their warnings AND comply by following them through the safe corridor.

>Further, the Aegis CG's and DDG's attached to the battle group will have been tracking anything within 300 miles from virtually 0ft to 80,000ft.

>Do not believe that for even 1 second, that ANY of those Russian aircraft at any time, posed even the slightest threat to a fully functional CBG performing underway operations at sea.

>Not a chance.

>+++

>Nope. Believe it or not, things slip through. We DO NOT have an E2C airborne 24/7. We have neither the aircraft nor the crews to maintain that operational tempo. That's why we have what are called "Shotgun Cruisers". Alpha Whiskey (the air warfare commander) is the CO of the cruiser that is within 5 miles of the bird farm at all times. It's his job to detect, track and identify all air contacts approaching the battlegroup. From what I've heard from the Kitty Hawk guys I know, in this case, he failed, and was subsequently "fired" and the job given to another ship in the battlegroup. That guy failed as well (when the second flyover occurred). There are many unhappy folks on those cruisers right now.

Дык что же они хотели.Понятное дело что лучше иметь ПВО в 100,даже 50км,но так чтобы это была броня,панцырь,чем ПВО в 500км которая будет как рыбачья сеть.

>I wish our equipment and technology was that good. It's not.
