"The 7. Panzer is released and placed as reserve north of Buczacs and on 21 April to a rest area south of Stanislav. Four days later the division moves south to the Carpathian passes, under command of the 7th Hungarian Korps. Here the division stays, relatively quiet, till 1 July. In this time reinforcements flow into the division.On 21 June 1944, the Red Army launched its big summer-offensive, Operation "Bagration" against Heeresgruppe Mitte. Within a week, 3 armies are almost completely destroyed, two dozen German divisions lost and a gap of several hundreds of kilometers torn in the German front. The Russians marched with high speed into this gap. From all other fronts and Heeresgruppe, units were rushed to White Russia to close the gap. The 7. Panzer was one of them. The transport was by train from Lemberg to Lida, some 30 km from the frontline, were the first elements arrived on 5 July."
