A new rotation of personnel took place in the Georgian Army. According to the President's - the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's order, Besik Shengelia, Captain of the first rank was appointed the Commander-in-Chief of Georgian Naval Forces. Acting Commander-in-Chief of Georgian Naval Forces had been Colonel Koba Gurtskaia, while Besic Shengelia held the post of the Chief of Squadrons of Georgian Naval Forces.
In 1984-88 Besik Shengelia received high professional education. In 1988-92 he served in the USSR Black Sea Anti- Submarine division.
Shengelia started service in the Georgian Naval Forces in 1992. In different times he was in charge of the radio technical company; he had been Commander of Naval Infantry Battalion and Commander of Special Naval Battalion
