Comment: Submarine support and salvage ships built at Shanghai. First launched in mid-1973, operational in 1976. Yongxingdao has a smoke deflector on funnel. Provision for DSRV on forward well-deck aft of launching crane. A fourth and fifth of the class are listed under Research Ships. Foremast on Yongxingdao suggests long-range communications capability, possibly for submarine command. One based in each Fleet.
