Что изображено на флаге? Мы видим меч (Экскалибр, как на SAS-овской эмблеме?) и... чертополох? головка мака? заменённая у SAS на тот же Экскалибр с доставшимися в наследство крылышками, которые вырoсли их этой травы, пардон, растительного орнамента?

>This linen flag bearing Covenanting mottoes dates from the late 17th century.
>The mottoes read 'JEHOVAH NISSI' ('The Lord my Banner') and 'FOR GOD AND THE COVENANTED WORK OF REFORMATION'. The Hebrew motto 'JEHOVAH NISSI' is taken from the Bible, Exodus Ch. 17, Vs 15: 'And Moses built an Alter and called the name of it Jehova-Nissi'. It refers to the victory of the Children of Israel over those who opposed them.
>Surviving Covenanting banners show that the mottoes carried on them changed through the Covenanting period (c. 1638-89). The continuing importance of the written word to the Reformed Church (for whom education and literacy for all the people was a fundamental principle of the Reformation of 1560) is suggested by some of the banners marched under by the Covenanting armies.
