You've got the intakes and the engines in the wrong place for one. You've got too unsophisticated a design of wing with no camber or twist for two" And although your bypass engines will help you whern it comes to airport noise (which I wouldn't have thought in Russia wase very sensitive) I said you'll lose a lot of efficience when it comes to your cruise performance.
When I had said the engines are in the wrong place you've got to put them about halfway across the wing he had said to me: "Well I know that but we just can't get the control system to work with the engine-out case"...
When I went to the Paris in 1973 and saw the Soviet aerplane that crushed the day afterward the'd make the bulk of the changes. Moving the engines from underneath the body to halfway out on the wing was no light acievement and that had to be a big compromise because the undercarriage was already where the engines were to be. They had also changed the wing which had camber and twist incorporated when I saw that production aeroplane. But they never were good at powered controls. The Il-62 (which was very similar to the VC-10) had manual controls for the simple reason that they didn't know how to design the powered ones. (Owen Kenneth Concorde. New Shape in the sky.
