CHINA DEBATES the FUTURE SECURITY ENVIRONMENT
MICHAEL PILLSBURY
January 2000
National Defense University Press
Washington, DC

Lengthy article by Mike Pillsbury on Chinese views of the future security environment. A little outdated at 2000, with most of his interview of mainland Chinese occurring in the mid 1990's. Mike Pillsbury is what some on this board call a Neo-Con. Link below provides access to the entire article. Makes for extremely interesting reading.

PS:, if any of you folks don't approve of my posting of this article, or if I have inadvertently "hurt Chinese feelings", you know what part of my anatomy you are welcome to kiss.

On the other hand, should be a good article to debate if we can all "keep our feelings from being hurt".

Where's your statistics and sources? Mine is from CIA's. Ever heard of comprehensive national power? That's a term Deng coined. Deng famous quote is "bid our time, hide our capabilities". Assuming you have any real sources, they are underated by its authors, in complaince to Deng above operating maxim.

Just to name a few:

I agree though, Deng Xiaoping's шКЙтбјЛо is brilliant.

That's all fake! They are written in Chinese and so come under the operating dictate of Deng's maxim above. Beware of what u read. Here's why:

2 years ago, China downplayed its GDP as behind Britain and France, etc. Then with a stroke of the pen, the Statistician of China elevated its GDP by 20% as uncalculated during an accounting reconcilation, thus making China surpassed Britain and France. Learn from the above stroke of a pen example how China are downplaying its growth. CIA's statistic would like to downgrade China's GDP as always, but it still writes China as a $9 trillion economy versus US's $12 trillion. Time to clean or change your bifocals.

Now, there is a call for China to realize its real Yuan value per an annual exchange rate increase of 3%. If transpired, China's GDP would again rise by 40%, even if it stops growing altogether. And the world knows that China double-digit growth is unstoppable (and has been in the last 2 decades), short of an asteroid hitting earth.

Hahaha, that's interesting, if it's written in Chinese it must be fake? I am sure a lot of China-bashers would agree with you.

GDP? So the PRC is the fourth largest economy. So what? I am still poor. A lot of people are poorer. Being the fourth largest (or the first for that matter) economy doesn't make this century the Chinese century when you have tons of problems that are holding you back.

The Chinese dollar hoard thunders forward
By William Hawkins

Пекин использует (термин) "всесторонняя национальная власть(мощь)", чтобы объединить экономический и проблемы безопасности. Соединенные Штаты должны думать таким же образом.

SPEAKING FREELY
The dangers in talking to China

revolving door between government officials and corporate executives has done more to erode the ethical duties of public service than to instill in the business community any sense of patriotic purpose. There is nothing equivalent to the Chinese strategic concept of "comprehensive national power" motivating US policymakers to reject the blandishments of corporate-sponsored engagement campaigns.

No wonder Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi, who led Beijing's delegation at the SED, called the event "a complete success".
