>An experienced pilot could bomb accurately to within 25 or 30 yards.
"Clostermann says that Squadron Leader Sutherland evolved a method for delivering a single 500-pound bomb from the fuselage centre line whereby the aircraft in the section approached the target area in ‘close reversed echelon’ at 12,000 feet. When the leader saw the target appea behind the trailing edge of the wing, he dived at an angle of 75 degrees, followed closely by the others, with the target in their gunsight and at full
throttle. At 3,000 feet, they would begin to pull out, count three and release the bombs. Eventually, with practice, the pilots could place them within a 450 yard circle."
