I know exactly what I am talking about.
The US Army and Marine Corps have riflemen who are trained to engage targets up to 300 meters or so, "Squad Marksmen" which use highly accurized M16 rifles equipped with scopes to cover the distance between 300 and 600 meters, and snipers who use the 7.62mm bolt action rifles to cover from 600 to 1000 meters ACCURATELY.
The American military considers the SVD as a marginally effective rifle in the "squad marksman" role and unsuitable as a sniper's rifle.
I also highly doubt you would be able to find American snipers attacking your unit from 600 to 800 meters away. Even though they are excellent shooters, they are even better at concealment, camouflage, and evasion. Most likely the only clue you will have will be seeing your fellow comrades dropping dead where they stand. You might hear the echoes from the rifle's report, but it will be so diffused you won't be able to tell where it came from. You certainly will not see the shooters".

P.S. ""Squad Marksmen" which use highly accurized M16 rifles equipped with scopes to cover the distance between 300 and 600 meters.
They are the same M16A4 rifles as everyone else except that they have ACOGs. Now that ACOGs are becomeing easier to get more Marines are using them. They are trying to get one ACOG per fire team (4 marines) instead of squad now".
