Ну давай посмотрим на текст
1) Что произошло с парашютистами:

The first group of "paras," however, was captured by the Belgians and the second was trapped between the fortress and the Albert Canal until the assault engineer battalion linked up with them."
Т.е. часть парaшютистов была захвачена Бельгийцами, часть оказалась зажатой между фортом и каналом. Вобщем роль паращютистов в основном свелась к ослеплению форта, чтобы обеспечить проход войск по мостам. Собственно штурм форта случился на следующий день. Вот описание штурма, оттуда же:

2) During the night a German engineer detachment in rubber boats crossed the water protection of Eben-Emael fort, maintaining radio contact with the parachutists landed on the turret tops.
Что мы видим.
Вряд ли German engineer detachment maintained radio contact with the first group captured by the Belgians.
Следовательно German engineer detachment maintained radio contact with the second groups which was trapped between the fortress and the Albert Canal
Но так как в то же время German engineer detachment maintained radio contact with the parachutists landed on the turret tops.
то вывод -
second groups which was trapped between the fortress and the Albert Canal = parachutists landed on the turret tops
Отсюда бельгийцы разместили turret tops between the fortress and the Albert Canal.
