U.S. Security Firm Workers Killed in Iraq

MINNEAPOLIS - Whether coaching high school football, training with the Marines, or running the city of North Branch as its mayor, John Pinsonneault was a public servant and leader.

His sense of duty sent the 39-year-old to Iraq (news - web sites) as a contract worker for the private U.S. security firm DynCorp.

Pinsonneault was killed Thursday in suicide bombings in Baghdad's Green Zone, home to U.S. officials and the Iraqi leadership. Also killed were fellow DynCorp. employees Steve Osborne, a 40-year-old police officer and veteran of the war in Afghanistan (news - web sites) from Kennesaw, Ga.; and Eric Miner, 44, of Brooklyn, Conn. A fourth American was missing and presumed dead.

Pinsonneault, of North Branch, had served about eight years in the Marines and eight years in the Reserves, his wife, Lorie, said. He went to Iraq in May in his civilian role.

"One thing he had said was 'If I can make a difference and maybe keep the younger boys out of there, I need to do that,'" she said. "The cause was just very important to him."

Osborne had been in Iraq since May and "was protecting dignitaries from the U.S. Embassy," said his sister-in-law, Amy Stafford.
