Zimbabwe orders FC-1s from Taiwan

Zimbabwe has ordered 12 FC-1 air-superiority fighters from the People's Republic of China (Taiwan) under a US$200 million contract.
The aircraft will replace the Hawker P 1099 Hunter FGA Mk 9s and the BAE Systems Hawk Mk 60s, which have been grounded by a lack of spares due to sanctions against Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwean air force currently operates a small number of MiG-23 and J-7 ground attack aircraft. Other combat aircraft include several Mi-35 assault helicopters and Reims-Cessna 337G and Siai-Marchetti SF-26 counter-insurgency aircraft. Several aircraft were lost during Zimbabwe Defence Force operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
