The Sunday Telegraph said that the IRA, Northern Ireland's biggest Catholic paramilitary group, had bought at least 20 AN94 assault rifles, capable of firing 1,800 bullets a minute, in Moscow late last year. The republican organisation announced a gesture of disarmament on April 8, its second since last October, and reiterated its commitment to the peace process.
