Israeli Defense Minister in the U.S.

TEL AVIV, Israel, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer was in Washington Monday to begin meetings with top U.S. and U.N. officials focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, the situation along the Lebanese border, and his concerns over the developing Iranian threat.

In a sign of asserting his stature, Ben-Eliezer last week baulked at suggestions Sharon had briefed him before he left for the United States.
"I am not (his) a platoon sergeant that gets briefings," he insisted according to Shenkman. "There is coordination (among us)."
Sharon, a former paratroop major general, caustically confirmed Ben-Eliezer never was one of his sergeants. That is because "he wasn't in the paratroopers or any other unit that I directly commanded," Sharon told the Cabinet Sunday, a participant related.
