As weather again clears, 550-plus B-17's and B-24's concentrate on comm and military tgts in C and NW Italy, attacking P-49 Pescina, troop concentrations at Avezzano, port and oil depot at La Spezia, supply and ammo dumps at Marina di Carrara, port and harbor installations at Piombino, railroad and highway bridges in Pineto area, railroad from Ancona to Pescara and N of Pescara, and towns of Valmontone and Palestrina. Ftrs fly over 200 sorties in escort to HBs. There is no ftr opposition.

Almost 700 B-17's and B-24's attack M/Ys at SaintEtienne, Lyon, Nice, Chambery, and Grenoble. HBs also hit Var R bridge and troop concentrations at Bihac. Ftrs escort the HBs and strafe and dive-bomb A/F at Donji Zemunik.

371 HBs attack M/Ys at Schwerte, Hamm, Osnabruck, Geseke, and Roosendaal; A/Fs at Luxeuil-les-Bains, Gilze-Rijen, and Florennes; and 5 bridges in France. The mission against the bridges, using radio-controlled bombs, is unsuccessful. 6 combat wgs sent to bomb A/Fs, M/Ys, and factories in France are recalled because of bad weather. 79 P-47's using dive bombing and 'Droopsnoot' (ftr equipped with bombsight) tactics attack Gutersloh A/F. 35 P-38's, unable to locate primary tgt of Lingen A/F, bomb A/F NE of Rheine, believed to be Hopsten.
