An unarmed Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile emerges from behind a hill and streaks into the atmosphere during a test launch 03 December, 2001 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California in support of the Missile Defense Test Program. The Minuteman II target missile was then intercepted over the Pacific Ocean by an interceptor missile launched from a south Pacific Ocean island.
