BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan (CNN) -- U.S. fighter jets bombed Taliban frontline positions north of Kabul on Wednesday, which British officials said was a change in the bombing strategy a week-and-a-half into the military campaign.
CNN Correspondent Matthew Chance reported seeing the attack from his position at Bagram Air Base, a former Soviet air base in Afghanistan. The anti-Taliban Northern Alliance has been asking the United States to shift its focus away from infrastructure targets in urban areas and instead strike Taliban frontline positions, which are about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) north of the capital Kabul.
British Ministry of Defense officials, in a briefing Wednesday, said there has been a shift in bombing strategy, away from fixed targets and to mobile troop positions.
