Kosovo Air Campaign (against Serb Army): 6,766 sorties planned, 56% aborted due bad weather. 78 days of campaign.
Estimated BDA (Bomb Damage Assessment), initial: 880 Serbs AFV and Arty pieces.
Estimated BDA, in second thought : 635 vehicles.
Confirmed after research on the field: 14 tanks, 18 APCs and 20 arty pieces...
Average killing: 1 Serb vehicle for every 72 sorties effectively executed.
Ok. This was in a very rough and mountain terrain, just like Afghanistan!
Same data in Gulf War, with no place to hide from the satellites which reads the patent number of Saddam limo.
Air Campaign: 44 days. 46,000 sorties against Iraqi ground forces.
Confirmed BDA: 1,028 AFVs and arty.
Average killing: 45 sorties for each. 23 vehicles a day.
Now, in the four day ground campaign in the Gulf, were destroyed 3117 AFVs and arty by Coalition ground forces.
This is some interesting food for thought. If were for what we saw from te News on line at the moment, we will think the smart bombs and misiles won that war.
