CALL FOR PAPERS

The Graduate Programme
"Contact Area Mare Balticum: Foreignness and Integration in the
Baltic"

at the

ERNST-MORITZ-ARNDT- UNIVERSITY GREIFSWALD (GERMANY)

invites to the international conference

"Integration - Fiction or Reality?"
Greifswald, 05. - 07. December 2001

The conference topic:
Contact between people with different origins is characterized
by everyday
integrative relationships. Nevertheless in today's scientific
research the
negative aspects of these contacts - xenophobia and racism - are
still in the
focus of interest. This research situation is also noticeable
relating to the
Baltic region.

Treating foreignness as an intellectual, cultural and social
phenomenon, the
focus of this year's international conference is on the
possibilities, ways,
forms and perspectives of integration and cultural exchange in the Baltic region. Aiming at an interdisciplinary approach lecturers of this conference are encouraged to go beyond the confines of their respective disciplines and to adopt a cross-national perspective. On the occasion a wide as possible range between acceptance, segregation and rejection of
foreignness and foreigners should be inspected from the disciplines' point of view, which participate at this Graduate Programme (see below for further details).

Lecturers are invited to announce themselves (deadline: 15 September 2001)
with a synopsis (max. 1 page) of a twenty-minute lecture, preferably by email
