Эксклюзив! Бой Т-72 с Т-72!
Ирано-иракская война. Чуть ли не единственное крупное сражение где с обеих сторон были Т-72.
On 6 February 1983, the Iranians started the operation Walfajr,
deploying something like a full IRGC Corps, and two Army divisions -
including the 92nd Armoured - from the area north of Dezful and
Musiyan towards Amarah, in Iraq. Lead by Col. Mohammad Baqeri. While
Iranian infantry hit the main positions of the Iraqi IV Corps (CO was
Maj.Gen. Fakhri) near Fakeh and was swiftly stopped, the 92nd AD,
equipped with newly delivered (probably via Poland and Syria) T-72s,
punched through and drove some 20 kilometers deep behind Iraqi lines.
With the main prong of the offensive (the infantry part) being
stopped far from the objective, a fierce quarrel between the Army and
the IRGC broke out, and this - as it seems - provoked a catastrophe.
On the afternoon of 8 February, the 92nd AD attacked the area around
the al-Shib border post, in a try to open the way for IRGC divisions,
but the Iraqis counterattacked with at least a division of their
Republican Guards (also equipped with T-72s), as well as the air
force (Baghdad later claimed that the IrAF flew 129 combat sorties on
that day). This counter-attack failed, and in the following night,
the 92nd AD mauled the 12th Mechanized Brigade of the Iraqi Army,
destroying most of its T-72s. Yet, on the morning of 9th February,
the Iraqi Republican Guards attacked in the flank and the backs of
the 92nd and the division was soon isolated from Iranian lines. Two
days later, large parts of the unit surrended, after the ammo was
spent and most of their T-72s destroyed. Supposedly, only small
elements of the 92nd Division came away from this trap, and the
battle ended with an Iraqi triumph, while the reputation of Iranian
armoured corps sank so far, that it hardly played any important role
in the fighting before 1986 again.
