It is October 2007, and President Bush arrives in Chicago to address business leaders at the Sheraton hotel. The streets are packed with demonstrators protesting about the perceived belligerence of their netion's foreign policy. Bush's cavalcade gets through and he is hustled inside by anxious security people. He says his piece, using the occasion to issue a warning to North Korea, and makes for the exit. Suddenly, shots ring out and he falls fatally wounded amid screams, shouts and chaos. It is the real President Bush we see speaking, but an actor who takes the bullets.
A realistic drama, styled lilke a documentary, this cleverly mixes archive footage with dramatised scenes, merging the two so that the actors can be seen in events that actually happened. But mostly they appear as witnesses to the shooting and its consequences as if they are being interviewed some time later by a documentary-maker.
The fictional assasination has provoked anger in America and resulted in death-threats to the film-makers, but it is just the start of the story here as the ensuing narrative unfolds to propose a chilling aftermath.
