The Tamara systems were created by Czech military specialists prior to the Velvet Revolution of 1989. They were recognized as the best radar systems manufactured in the Warsaw Treaty member-states. According to the Czech MoD, over 50 Tamara radar systems were operated abroad, primarily in the USSR. The Czech Armed Forces operated 2 Tamaras, Slovakia, US and Germany had one radar system each.
