Вот тот самый отрывок из которого выводят "инфильтрацию":
"Опорные пункты, деревни, и леса должны быть нейтрализованы, в определённых обстоятельствах путём использования дымов. Войска должны проходить мимо них, и, эшелонированные в глубину, атаковать пункты которые представляются оказывающими наименьшее сопротивление. Последующие волны захватят опорные пункты и т.п. путём охвата/обхода."
Несмотря на непонятность размеров "опорных пунктов", деревни и леса (как типичные места размещения войск противника) вполне очевидно могут вместить роту-батальон англичан/французов. Обошедшая часть должна построиться эшелонированно для дальнейшей атаки.
Как мне представляется, здесь речь идёт о подразделениях уровня батальона-полка.
Что либо меньшее обойти лес и построиться эшелонировано для дальнейшей атаки просто эффективно не сможет.
Больше в данном базовом наставлении намеков на "просачивание" я не нашёл. Про использование фланговых ударов в случаях задержек продвижения вперёд, кстати, есть.

(стр.4) 8.The great importance of flanking action, even with small forces, especially of artillery and machille guns, has been repeatedly shown in all offensive operations. Strong defensive works should not be attacked from the front but from the flanks and rear.

The fact that small portion have not been able to get forward must not hinder the forward pressure of the whole, If isolated elements only cannot advance, support on the flanks from neighbouring bodies of troops und a short preparation by machine guns, light trench mortars and the guns accompanying the infantry will often be sufficient to enable them to get on.
