Абросов Сергей тут еще бывает? По Испании

Случайно наткнулся на любопытный эпизод в довольно редкой книжке по 6 декабря 1937 года (у тебя в книжке есть, но без этих подробностей):

Thousands of young men died in Bf110s Jost their lives in accidents, like aerial collisions. One of these was Hauptmann Willi Hachfeld, Kommandeur of III/ZG2, who was killed on 2 December 1942 when his Bf110 collided with another Bf110 landing at Bizerta in Tunisia. Six months before him Oberfeldwebel Otto Polenz died when the Bf110 he was flying (3U+BS) was rammed by another Bf110 near Derna in Libya. Polenz's flying career was retraced by his wife in a letter to the author in 1979. "My husband was born on 14 April 1913 in Osterode, East Prussia, and was interested in flying from the start. He got his gliding certificates in East Prussia and then from 1934 to 1936 he was trained as a pilot in Kitzingen/Main. When his training was over, he and his comrades entered the Luftwaffe as some of the earliest pilots. In 1936 he was stationed with the Richthofen Geschwader at Werl in Westphalia.

'He stayed there until April 1937 when he was posted to a secret address in Berlin. In reality he had joined the Condor Legion and had been sent to Spain. Unfortunately I know little about his time there. But I know that after a few months he had to make an emergency landing and was taken prisoner by the Republican forces."

What in fact happened was that on 4 December 1937 Feldwebel Polenz had to land his Messerschmitt Bf109B-1, 6-15, on the road between Azaila and Escatron after having exhausted his fuel while escorting Heinkel He51s that were attacking Bujaraloz airfield. His aircraft was later clandestinely evaluated by a French mission (see Messerschmitt Bf109 at War, page 36). Subsequently the aircraft was shipped to Russia only to be captured by members of the Azul Legion, the Spanish volunteers who fought alongside the Germans against Russia. Polenz's wife, who now lives in Canada, went on:

My husband was declared dead in Germany until months later we found out through the Russian broadcast "German mothers are you searching for your sons?" that he was still alive. In June 1938 he was exchanged with two British officers and returned to Germany.

He had hardly started his convalescence holiday when he was recalled for a short stay near the Czechoslovakian border from where he returned to Werl. In the meantime he had joined a Zerstörergeschwader (II/ZG26) and flew the Bf110. For a short time after war had been declared he was posted as a flying instructor to Neubiberg near Munich. He loved to instruct and his pupils liked him very much. Early 1941 he joined III/ZG26 which operated with the Afrika Korps. During this time I only saw my husband on two occasions and that for only a short period, when he came to Nurem- berg to collect some spare parts.

In 1942 he was stationed near Derna in Libya and mostly flew cover missions for the aerial supply aircraft but he also flew against Malta. He obtained a few victories during aerial combat until on 1 June 1942 he met his fate and was shot down. At least that was what the Luftwaffe said, but his comrades said that a panicking young Leutnant rammed his aircraft. I don't know to this day what really happened but I have never forgotten him. He was a fine, calm and collected man.

Вильгельм Хахфельд служил в 2./JG51 был известным истребителем-бомбардировщиком, именно поэтому его поставили командовать "жабами" только сформированной III./ZG2, летавшей сначала на 109Е, а затем на Fw190. Именно на Фоккере он и погиб.

Вот это как раз и зацепило - ведь Биттнер был опытным оберлейтенантом, летал с 1939, в штаффеле очень давно, победу даже имел...
